About
Sacred Containers is a one-woman business run by me, Maja Jerkic. I work in Oakland, California, where the combination of culture and coastal landscapes informs the nature of my work.
The architecture of my work is inspired by the feminine form which encompasses curves, fluidity, and softness.
The soul of my work grows from my lineage in Bosnia, namely my grandmother, whose graceful hands exaggerate the beauty of simplicity.
Embedded within my approach to ceramics are a love and fascination for neuroscience, mindfulness, and the use of creativity to empower personal and social change.
After receiving a BA in psychology, credentials in counseling + holistic approaches to medicine, and pursuing an active career as a life coach, I’ve returned home to ceramics—now, with a new perspective on the ways our human psyches are moved by beauty and form.
I will forever be a student of clay; receptive to the wisdom teachings that this ancient artistic modality presents. I approach all of my pottery work with joyous gratitude for the creative journey that clay takes me on; always returning me back to my very own sacred container—my body.
I practice relationship first, business second. It thrills me to meet those who admire Sacred Containers and get to know the impact that these special vessels have on them. And I’m proud to produce sustainably and near-zero-waste.
My promise is to continue to produce functional art that adds warmth to your home and gracefully invites you to slow down and appreciate this precious experience of being alive.
